Hi,

I have just installed a freshly rebuild 1965 PB 727.
Shift cable has been adjusted correctly, it points right to the middle of the neutral switch when shifter is in N-position.
We also checked the band adjustment according to the manual today, but it didnt help :icon_silent:

The tranny shop installed that shift kit:

http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/T22165.html

The only way to make it upshift is, when I move the shifter (while driving in D) quickly to N and right back to D.

I`m runnin out of ideas :icon_eek:

Thanks

Dan

the transgo tf1 or tf2 would probably have been more suitable for that trans. in my experience late upshift/no upshift has been too much throttle pressure. make sure the kick down linkage is adjusted correctly.

How do I reduce the "throttle pressure"?

I use Lokar throttle and kickdown cables by the way.
As soon as the throttle lever starts to move, the kickdown starts to move as well.
At WOT there is a little gap left in the kickdown cable, so it should be adjusted properly in my opionion.

If nothing helps I`ll probably swap the shift kit.

sounds like to much throttle pressure at the kick down. do you have the original kick down rod? it'd be easier to adjust. anyhow, start backing the cable off and give the kick down lever more slack. are you having problems with the trans not down shifting properly when coming to a stop? hopefully the valve body hasn't been damaged. they're near impossible to find.

Thanks, I`ll try and give it a little more slack. Havent tried that!
I still have the original rod but my intake is too high, thats why I have the Lokar system now.
Fortunately it is down shifting at stops, yes.

Will let you know the results tomorrow, thanks!

Do you still have your old linkage ?? We can modifiy this part... so you don´t have to deal with the lokar stuff.....

Just another guess. Do you have the correct 2 hole filter installed?

this is what i'd do! my experienece, or should i say my friends experience, with the lokar kick down cable was dismal. i opted to fab a kick down rod and mimic the factory linkage, and was glad i did.

Damn, I had the oil pan off today but didnt pay attention how many holes it had....

@Juergen : yes I still have the Original kd rod!

....remove the pan.... once again ! :hello2:

Double checkin all the possibilities...that can cause the " defect". And then we will customize the OEM Linkage.....

P.S hope that Victor Reinz isn´t too sticky....... :icon_scratch:

the '65 and earlier trans has a front and back pump so a 2 hole filter is necessary. if your using a deep pan the filter extension needs 2 holes also.

I agree. had the same problem with mine. would only upshift as you described. disassembled trans. 3 times& checked everything! then realized I had a one hole filter spacer. problem solved

when Dan gives a little more " way " to the KD cable... The tranny shifts into the 3rd.. But in this case..the Kickdown is gone...

So I think the Lokar Cable is the "Bad Guy "...

Greetings Juergen

Hi,

it was the kick down adjustment, thanks for your help guys!

As user lewtot184 said, the Lokar system does NOT work!
I tried to find the correct adjustment where the shift points and the kick down both work, but it is just not possible.

@lewtot184: how did you modify your kick down rod?
I have a Edelbrock RPM intake and it is too high, so I might weld a piece in that rod to extend it, right?

Thanks

Dan

i made 2 of them from scratch, wasn't easy. one for a 6-pak intake and one for an edelbrock dual quad. i single 4bbl should be easier. i'd just find a straight section in the vertical part of the rod and add about 2.5". a threaded adjustment in the center of the rod would be cool. i think it's 7/16" rod. good luck!

Hi,

I have the "1 piece" rod.
Will try it as you say and leave the RPM intake on, great idea!

This is it by the way:

i'm seeing a possible problem here. are you putting a '65 cables trans in a '67 b-body? the reason i ask is the throttle cable bracket in the picture isn't '65. if this is what your doing the one piece kick down rod may not work because the engine sits further back on a '67 than a '65. i'm just trying to be careful and not give you advice that won't work. here is a pic of slightly modified '65 bracket and fabricated kick down rod.

Thanks for paying that much attention!

I have a 65 Coronet, not a 67.
The rod is exactly what I wanna use, but the throttle cable bracket was just in the only pic, the only one I had by hand.

I still have my original 65 brackets (throttle+kick down), fortunately.
Never throw or give away oem parts, thats what I`ve learned.

Dan

PS: thanks for the pic! :headbang:
