Wait, so that opening is supposed to be there or is there supposed to be a cover to protect the flywheel?

the opening is supposed to be there, they had those on later model small block transmissions. the opening is supposed to have a cover plate though, seems that is what you are missing.

How much later? I was thinking I had the original 1967 transmission. Do you know where I could buy the cover?

the newer covers, somewhere around 78 up are a solid piece like the ones in the links in your other thread.yours is right for your car,all that small removable section is for is to drain your converter....the newer cars and trucks no longer had plugs in the converter.the small piece is the one no one ever has...i'll look in my xtra stuff later and let you know if iv'e got one.

Thanks for answering my questions! That would be great if you had one. Didn't know I could drain my converter through a plug; going to be great for next fluid change, thanks again.

by the looks in your picture, I doubt it is the stock convertor, so you might not have the little pipe plug in it to drain with.

How far up inside is the converter plug so I know what to look for; is it above that plate I have missing?

1.5" from outside of teeth...it's within the area of the small cover.your converter may not have a plug.it looks like you have a 12" converter by your pix...it would be stock but maybe a replacement with the gray paint.

sorry no luck
