I got a 440 1969 Roadrunner with a 727 transmission in which I think is a bit sloppy in the shifter and in the actual shifts. I'm thinking about getting some aftermarket shifter and new valve body for it, but what are my options shifter wise that will fit under the stock console? Don't want to hack up a perfectly fine console...

Also - manual valve bodies are great fun - what other things needs to be changed. Tried to search the forum but only find threads about ppl having serious issues installing them?

Ive never had any issues running mvb or installing one. Ans inhave never installed an aftermarket shifter in the factory comsole, but i thought if i ever did it would probably be a quicksilver. Just seems like it would adapt to the console the best.

Or the pro-matic 2. Cant decide

you can get a shift improvement kit from Trans-go or TCI. there are little tricks you can do to firm up shifts at home as well. i always uped the line pressure a tad more that the manual suggested, like a half turn more, the id take the accumlator piston out, remove the spring inside, and replace it with a 2 inch piece of electical conduit in its place.

i also replace the 2nd gear band actuator with the parts from 67-69 pick up trucks, there are no comfort controls in the truck trans missions, so the shifts can easily be made firm.

I guess it's a question of preference -Pro-matic 2 seems pretty nice though. Do you guys know if it's possible to mount a pro-matic 2 in the stock console?
