so.....my utter brilliance is on display once again. I had an empty transmission that has been sitting for years and decided to replace the filter then fill er up. Everything thing went really smooth, except after removing several bolts, notice there are two different lengths, o ****. No biggie, just put them back where they will bolt in, done. Then I filled her up and closed up and was done for the day. How satisfying it was!!!

Then to my utter dismay, I returned to the garage the next day to the smell of trans fluid and a puddle on the floor. So, either I placed the bolts in the wrong holes or someone broke in and loosened the bolts. So now I need to find a chart or map that shows which bolts go where. Once I see that, I have to figure which bolts are which and rearrange them without losing anymore fluid, stuff is expensive!!

Anyone have a link to said chart or map?

That said, thinking about opening a transmission shop on the side!!!!

If you're referring to the pan bolts they should all be the same length.

I went online to read installation sequence and it stated there were two sizes, seems to me 4 that were longer than the rest. It also stated that those four should be the first installed. Well, I saw those four, but since I was crawling around in filth to change them, I did not see where they came from. Hence the question. I have all the bolts.

Some of the bolt holes are blind so if you used too long a bolt it would bottom out before tightening. They should be all the same length. Give us the link that says 2 different lengths are used, please.

The pan bolt threads often get stripped out from over-torqueing, installing a longer bolt in the stripped hole will sometimes catch the remaining threads. Check all the holes to see if the first threads are missing.

I remembered when I went down to the garage this afternoon, it was in the instructions that came with the filter and gasket. It was a NAPA item and I could not find the instructions for the NAPA kit online. I switched two bolts and one tightened up though the other didn't. I found a longer one in my 'bolt' drawer and it tightened up. We'll see if it is still leaking tomorrow.
