As close as the 73 and 74 Plymouth B bodies are in appearance, there are actually quite a few differences underneath. One being the fuel tank. The 73 is non vented (flat top) and the 74 is vented (bubble top). Other than that, they look to be pretty much the same tank.

I know a 74 tank won't work in 73 because they're is no relief in the trunk floor for he bubble top. But does anyone know for sure if a 73 will fit in a 74?

73 tank IS vented, but uses a separate external manifold to tie the four vent lines together.

I believe replacement for that manifold is what's in the hump on the 74 tank.

I think the 73 tank will strap up to the 74 floor OK, but you'll have to fab something for those vent lines.

I stand corrected..... Thanks. Reason I want to try the 73 tank is I'm installing an Aeromotive Stealth 340 Phantom sumped fuel pump (which is vented) and requires to drill a 3-1/4" hole in the top at deepest part of the tank. The 74 tank just doesn't have that much real estate without getting in the way of the sender which I need to keep.

I want to do exactly the same thing.

I hope you post some pics when your done.

So, i did a little research and i've came to the conclusion that a 73 tank will indeed fit in a 74. I ordered the 73 tank from Summit because like i said, there is much more flat area on top for the Stealth pump to fit. Also, once the pump is installed, the top of it will protrude out of the tank over 1/2". This part of the pump will snuggle nicely up into the recess of the trunk floor that was intended for the 74 tank bubble.
I will give a full update after i have this all installed once i get home from Russia.

this is exactly what i was planning to do with my 1974 charger....use a tank from a '73 with the aeromotive in tank efi pump assembly. be sure to post up plenty of pics when get it in there :)

Just a little update on this........ I completed the fuel pump install WITH a 73 tank. It worked out exactly the way i hoped it would. The tank sits straight and the fuel pump nestles perfectly up in the trunk recess..... I ended up spraying the tank with black undercoating and painting the straps body color..... I didn't really get a good picture of the tank after it was installed but you can see it sits pretty good. Highly recommend this Aeromotive Phantom fuel delivery system. It's dead quiet..... All i hear is a very slight hum and the rush of fuel coursing through the lines back to the tank. IMG_0338.jpgIMG_0339.jpgIMG_0340.jpgIMG_0293.jpg
