73 CHALLENGER* Why is my SHIFTER different!!

Hey everyone, my 73 (TB3) original four speed Petty Blue challenger has a ball shifter on it. Now, the shifter, mechanism, etc. IS original and numbers matching but my mechanism does not have the plate on top that the chrome stick of the Pistol Grip mounts to with the two bolts rather it seems the chrome stick in it now is just bolted in with the "front to rear" bolt that would hold the plate i need. I spoke with Hurst and they swear that I have the correct setup and that is might be unique.....I have never heard of a 73 four speed Chalenger with a non-pistol grip shifter OR a slip in stick. I could really use your expertise .....ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!!

Someone has modified it, should have a pistol grip.

Got it...shifter mechanism isnt correct.
