'73 Charger SE Starter Relay Terminal Function

From the service manual the "G" terminal is a ground that's part of the neutral safety switch circuit. Can anyone provide an explanation as to how it provides a ground? Thought the NSS was grounded by was of the transmission case.

That provides a ground to the coil in the relay when you are in neutral or park. When you turn the key to 'start' that energizes the coil in the relay.
 
Starter relay is isolated from chassis however still need both fields to operate. One field comes from Ign switch ( pos ), the other one from transmission just in N or P ( neg ). So just when both are ok and sourcing, relay will work and feed the Starter motor solenoid to make it engage and turn
