Hello fellow Moparians. How much of a job is it to swap out a 8 3/4 rear housing from a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda into a 1974 Dodge Charger? been checking with others and seems the perches need to moved about 3/4". Any other advice, or should I just wait till a B body housing comes along? I'm currently running the stock housing with my 318. What might be a nice ratio to use for cruising, but still have some nice get up and go with the stock 318...2.94/3.23/3.55? No lower than 3.55. Thanks guys

Yes on moving the perches... are you keeping the ISO mounting? if so, you will have to open up the centering hole in the perch from 1/2" to 1" to accomodate the ISO mounting.

The Ebody housing is not as wide as the 74 Bbody housing too, but adjusting your wheel for proper backspacing will correct that. Oh and you may have to shorten the driveshaft and also be aware that there may be different sized Ujoint and yokes though there are adapter ujoints available.

As for the ratio, a lot depends on your tire hight and what engine rpm's you are confortable with at highway cruising speeds and for how long. lol There are rpm calculators online.

Thanks Kernel. As for ratio...I'm going to be running 275/60-15 on the rear, still undecided for front probably 215/225/235/70-15??? Like a cruising RPM of around 18-2,500.(No super long runs...50 mile max) Sure appreciate all the great info. Have a great week. Mark

I have a station wagon housing, its 1.4" wider. Perches are just right. I have pretty much decided to go to a Dana 60 on my 73 satellite. I'm located in Ohio. I have bare 742 case as well. pm if interested. Good luck
I am probably going to a 3.73 for a hot daily driver/some strip action. With a 28" tire I will be turning around 3000 rpm at 65 mph with 727 auto. I hope to be in the 12's on drag radials and drive it to and from the track.
