There has been a 73 RR for sale near me for some time now it is a 400 hp buckets console car in tb3 blue it is in sad shape! bad case of the rusty's in all the normal spots. the engine is a faily new rebuild so not #'s matching but it runs well the carb is swapped out the kickdown lever is not hooked up so the trans is questionable it had the blue interior and it came with hood pins but it is not a highly optioned car. i just don't know if i should get it or not! my charger is almost done and i was thinking of saving this one and flipping it but it is going to need some serious metal work. the flip side is it runs and drives and is mostly complete it just needs a couple of odds and ends to be complete. it needs me to weld a lot of metal on chrome the bumpers paint it and a couple of bits on the inside then a general once over of the mechanicals and it could be good to go.i figure i can do an ok job for about 10 grand or less as i have many parts myself and the shop and contacts to get some deals but what would it be worth on the market? it looks like folks are asking anywhere between 10g and about 25g for these cars i wonder what they actualy are getting? i can probably get this car for somewhere between 1500 and 2000 just not sure if it is worth it to me.

wow no opinions? just looking for some insperation one way or the other

$25k for a 73 is rich, with or without all the options and original motor. I love those years but i'd think $15k is on the top side unless it's special. How bout some pix.

I have to agree, as much as I love the 73/74 body, a 20K car almost needs to be never rusted and higly optioned.

I just saw a solid #3 (maybe even a bit nicer) 72 B5 a/c 340 car with no rust in the quarters go for 11K. It wasn't pretty under the hood, but the int was nice and the quarters/trunk were original and never rusted....and that was a 72.

For a 73, only patches are available for the quarters (rear half), unlike the Charger that has "full" patches that include the complete wheel arch and rocker join seam.

Get us a pic if you can...

It does sound like you could make a few dollars on it, If you could get it at 1500 or so, id be tempted if i were you only because you are saying you have a lot of parts for it and some deals with a shop maybe saving you some money.. I cant see one selling or turning into a 20+ K car though, its a shame with them but the market value of these just don't seem to be there to fetch that kind of money, Ive seen your work and know your more then capable but its just the value when selling them.. Ive been wrong before but i to wouldn't mind knowing what these guys are really getting for them. Good luck however you go.

after looking at my options and what the car should actualy sell for i have decided to pass, looks like the crusher for this one. i sent the info off to a buddy i helped with a 71 RR a couple of years back he is mulling it over, he may pick it up as a parts car. btw these cars do sell for more up here in the great white north, there are a lot less of them left!

With 73-74 cars, it's all a matter of where the rust is. If it's serious and in the quarters, the car is pretty much a parts car. Anywhere else and it might be worth saving.

I was wondering what the price deltas would be in Canada. I've seen lots of really nice 73s selling, not asking but selling, for under $10,000. There was a super nice 73 RR down in Miami that started at $15,000 and eventually sold at $8,800, so the market isn't there to support investing $12k plus on a project.

A friend of mine had a '73 340/auto, Runner, it was a sweet car, no major rust, most parts were included and it ran strong. He finally ended up getting $2000 for it. It was a full data plate car and rock solid. I almost bought it, right before I pulled the trigger I found my '71 Charger SE. The market just isn't there for those cars.

As a matter of fact he listed it here, and people wanted him to just part it.

I would rather see a car parted out than to get bought by some well-meaning fool who gets in over his head, can't afford to do anything with it, and transforms into that guy we all hate... Mr. "I'm Gonna Fix It Up Someday". At least parted out it's helping get other cars back on the road instead of acting as a leaf collector in some guy's backyard.

A no rust 340 anything should bring more than 2K!

Sounds like who ever got the car got a heck of a deal on it to me. Hopefully the one who got it, will save it and restore it.

I saw one sell on tv at the Mecum auto show for $12,500.00 I don't think it reached 13k. This car was a 340 4spd car and it was restored from what I remember and it was a really clean car like freshly restored.

I would say the car had 20-30K in it and it was a very nice Road Runner.

There is one by me that is a 318 car and I keep thinking about checking it just because its been around me for 20+ years. I think I could now get it for under a grand.

I pointed out to the car the faults the problems with these years and he said just come look at it I want it gone I dont want it to sit outside any longer. I may go look at it and buy if worse comes to worse I could part it out and make my money back.

I'm sure the hood I could get 350-650 plus the shipping. I think there is a member here looking for a hood and if I bought it I would cut them a break on it if I parted it out.

These cars are great cars and I like the modded out a bit and I think with mods you could get some good money out of one if you got it cheap enough did the work yourself.

There are now three cars in my area I want and none of them are high dollar cars. The one is a 65 Sat with a 318 that I would clone as a hemi car the other one is a 65 Barracuda that I would mod unless it was in great shape and the last one is the Road Runner that I would mod the heck out of it and drive it.

The next one I get I wont be flipping I will be driving it daily to work all year around unless it snows then I will have a beater truck (Rat Rod style)

I think our hobby gets wrapped up in what is rare what is not and I agree with if its rare restore it and protect it and if its not drive as if its your last day on earth and enjoy it.

I saw a guy driving a 70 Road Runner Convert with a Ram Charger hood with snow chains in the winter and I always thought man he was crazy but no it was me that was crazy and didn't see it for what it is. The guy was enjoying it like it was meant to be enjoyed. I did see the car hit in a snow/ice storm and he fixed it up and drove again.

The parts aren't selling that well either, at least not at high prices. I've seen a 73 hood for sale on Craigslist for $300 since May and it hasn't sold yet. The asking price for these hoods may be $300+, but that doesn't seem to be the selling price. There are still sail panel covers on ebay for $300 that I first saw in February! The guy selling covers for $30 got my money. :)

Well look like I wont be going that route if I were to buy it lol.
