I've been absent for a while, but thought I'd give you all an update on my Satellite/Roadrunner project. The long and short of it is I got ripped off big time. As many of you remember, the car was in amazing original condition when I sent it to a shop in Camden, NY called Saved from the Grave. The original estimate was for $9800 plus the cost of paint.
The car went amazingly fast. What was supposed to be an 18 month job took only a few months and the owner of the shop constantly raved over how quickly it was going and what a dream the car was to work on. All the body panels lined up perfectly with no tweaking needed, etc. By January I had paid him a bit over $9000 and then I get a bill for almost $10k more!
Never once did he ever tell me he was going over budget and on top of it billed me for $4500 in materials! Now he has amnesia over what he promised to do and can't produce the original list that he used to make his estimate, and of course he's no longer the nice guy that I had trusted my car to. Next step is a formal complaint to the DMV, and unfortunately a big check to a lawyer. I'll let you know how it progresses, but warn your friends.
