Finished up My 360 rebuild in the 74. Now I just need to get rid the the 8 1/4 2.75 gear. I have a 8 3/4 out of a 73 charger I plan to install with a 3.23 truetrac from Quick Performance. I thought about the 3.55 but want to keep it under 3000 rpm at highway speeds.

Any specs on the engine?
It has a mild purple cam, air gap intake, harland sharp roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM heads, msd ready to run distributor, TTI long tube headers with a Edelbrock 650. If I knew I was going this route I would have changed out the pistons for some 9:1 and maybe a different torque converter.

Are you over 400hp? The 8 1/4 will be fine and you wont have to change drive shaft and rear end. You can get a sure grip for the 8 1/4.

If you still run a 904 you can swap in a 2.74 low gear set. I did a 360 Magnum, Performer RPM. Eddy Head motor in a 68 Satellite convertible with a low gear 904 and 3.23. It was only 8.9-1. Ran really good. Way better than I thought. The 2.74 gives it an overall 1st gear ratio equivelent to using a 3.91.

I have a complete 8 3/4" rearend out of a 73 with sway bar. The drive shaft is the same size but uses the bigger u-joints. Leaf spring perch measure the same as the 8 1/4" so it should slid right in. They both use the leaf spring rubber isolators.
