74 Charger Sail Panel

I see where hardboard sail panel replacements are being offered as reproductions for less than $40.My car has the hard plastic panels. Are these hardboard panels a nice replacement? I don't see how they would hold up in dampness or heat. Any one having good results with these? Here's what Classic Industries sells. Thanks for any information.

The ones in the link do not look like yours in the pic you posted. They do not look like mine in the 73 Rallye either. The price is fantastic.

The card board repops don't fit the hard top cars! They don't repop the plastic panels ! If you need a set i believe I have a set i set aside for a future build as there extremely hard to get

I actually have 3 sets for my 2 Chargers so I'm good. I was looking at something else for the headliner and saw those sail panel boards. I was wondering what they were used for. If you notice in my 2nd photo, I made an insulated cardboard panel to go behind the plastic panel patterned after the original ones I removed. I'll include a photo of those panels. Terry

The cardboard panel repros are POS and they are not in anyway a replacement for our 73/74 Charger hardtops/coupes.

SOMETIME read somewhere, some 71/72 Plymouths got these made carboard ? never have seen one of those thought, but the cardboard pieces don't get the shape to fill the gap with quarter glass ( where the weatherstrip is stapled )

I hope won't find mines broken at body shop when reassembling my car. That will be a REAL HEADACHE.

Some were covered hardboard and used a front trim piece like the 71-72 Plymouths (slight difference in thickness and grain). Others used the vinyl trims. I have a set for sale on here if anyone’s interested. Lol

I'd like to see the extra trim used on those cars with the cardboard sail panel. I could consider that panel as a replacement if needed if getting that trim.

Well in fact I could make my own carboard sail panel and use the trim. No need to buy that repro $hh1t

and it was just used on 71/72 Plymouths ? I guess useable on 73/74 Chargers too! I really never have seen them on any Charger... but never have paid attention to the 71/72 Plymouths on this

73/74 Charger is similar but not exactly the same. They are fatter with a different grain pattern.

well I'm praying my plastic panels will be safe yet. Otherwise wouldn't care any grain pattern accuracy in case I will be needing to replace my sail panels with... anything. Just cover and fill correctly the panel area.

So Nacho, what was the end result on your sail panel pieces? Were they okay?

Dunno... they are 6K miles away from me, storaged at a body shop. Will take sometime ( I'm hoping by the end of the year ) untill I'm able to travel to Venezuela to assemby my car.
