Hey everyone, i have a 1974 plymouth roadrunner that my dad bought brand new in 74. He has been the only owner and quit driving it in the late 80's. Its mom and dads 45 wedding anniversary next year so i am surprising them by completely restoring it. Im gonna need a little help from ya'll if you're willing. It was kept inside so its in pretty nice shape but dad always wanted a little more power and to have the 4 speed manual transmission. The 440 is being rebuilt right now. It has the 3 speed auto so i found an A833 4 speed manual and ordered the conversion kit through brewers. I have all the parts but i dont have any instructions for installation. Have any of you done a 3 speed auto to 4 speed manual conversion on a 73 or 74 roadrunner? I need to know where to make the hole in the tunnel, where to mount all of the inside brackets, the firewall brackets and how the new clutch and brake pedal get installed? Here are a few pictures of the progress so far! Thank you all for having me apart of the forum and for being willing to help me out!

welcome

Welcome from Michigan:drinks:. Awesome story and love what you're doing for the parents.

First, welcome from WA state.

Second, why didn't just drop the engine and trans with the K frame since you were removing it?

Third, so long as you get the pedals and clutch activation system (linkage, hydraulic setup or whatever) its pretty straight forward. If you bought a kit you should also have the 4spd hump, on some cars its very easy to tell where it goes but on others no so much, so you might want to wait until you are ready, then mock up the trans to ID where exactly the shifter is going to live, then you have a point of reference to cut from.

If you don't have a FSM yet, get one, it should show you a lot about some of the things your are doing.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I guess i should have taken the engine trans with the k frame. I'll put it back in that way once i have all of that rebuilt thanks.

i have looked pretty thoroughly and i cant tell where the cut for the shifter is supposed to be so waiting until the mock up will probably be the way to go unless someone had a blueprint of where the cut was supposed to be.

What is an FSM?

it looks like 72 is the newest they have, it should still be worth having.

I would not trust any blue print or measurement completely, I would definitely mock it up first, make sure you know how/where the shifter will sit when on the trans because you will probably not be able to have the shifter on during the mock up because of the floor. It might take a little work to get it right but the end result will be worth it.
