No crush sleeve....only the 89 has one of those POS's lol. It would make the job of resetting the back lash easier if you had a spanner wrench to fit the carrier bearing adjusters and a dial indicator to check the back lash. I've never done it with feeler gauges but suppose you could get by with it. There's a thread here recently about how to hold the yoke to get the pinion nut off while it's still in the car....and having an impact is also nice to make the job go easier. Main thing you want to do is get the back lash where it was before you took it apart. Once you get the carrier out of the case, you can spin the pinion and see how smooth it turns. If it feels and sounds good, I wouldn't pull the pinion nut off of it.
