If you the 741 is over filled, and leaks out of the pinion seal, will the pinion seal, reseal enough gear/posi lubricant to lubricate the rear end, or do I need to replace the pinion seal

Now, if the pinion seal stops leaking, you are out of lube.......................MO

Thats some kind of English there. Tough to read. Anywho, sounds like you need to replace the pinion seal. Fill the oil to the proper level and make sure the vent it clear. If it isn't leaking bad and you dont have the time or funds, make sure the vent is clear and keep an eye on the oil level til you can get it fixed. If its puking it out then dont drive it.

Not quite sure how you could overfill it too badly - seems to me the spec capacity is right about at the filler hole level. Far as I can tell, the only way fluid level could blowout a seal is if the vent is plugged and the rear builds up pressure as it warms. Dontcha think it's just the run of the mill bad pinion seal? Good news is you don't have a 489 case.
