Happy New Year. I have 79 300 and the heater control valve won't close completely so I'm looking for a replacement. I see them listed everywhere but the last year always seems to be 1978. Wondering if the 79 unit is an oddball in some way? The ones pictured look pretty close but I really don't want to get something that won't work. Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, when I had my 79 300 I found that too when looking for parts. My opinion is that was the last year B so the 75-78 parts would be the same.I just looked at old engine photos of it and it looks like the same valve as my 88 Dodge truck.

I have an idea that's at least worth a shot. If the valve seems to work besides not closing 100%, then my first guess is that it's got some "scale" in it (same as the white stuff you see in old radiators). You might take it out & soak it overnight in white vinegar (acetic acid) or radiator flush. If you can work it back/forth before you rinse it off that may help too. fyi-I'm not familiar with that exact part.

Otherwise, Darter6's idea sounds really good. Maybe you can order it at O'Reilly (for a 78) & take your current one in with you when you pick it up. If it's not the same part, then just return it while you're standing at the counter.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'll give those ideas a shot.
