8.25 to 9.25 Rearend

I have a 72 Satellite Sebring which currently has its original 8.25 rear end. I also have a 9.25 rear end from a 74 charger. I don't mind moving the leaf spring mounts or getting bigger U bolts, I'm just concerned that if I make the switch the width of the 9.25 would be different even though it came from a b body. I think bigger would be better/stronger but I don't know much about rear ends. Would it be worth it to switch out the 8.25 for the 9.25 in the Satellite and would the 9.25 rear end fit into the Satellite? If so would there be any modifications? The car has a 1981 4bbl 360ci in it.

measure both diffs backing plate to backing plate to see how far out it is. Bigger ring gear is always worth it IMO.

I have a 9 1/4 in my '72 SSP that a previous owner put in it. It appears to fit with no modifications.

I 'believe' that the 9 1/4 out of the '74 will be fine, shouldn't be any mods needed. Based on some info I read on the differences between rears, the 9 1/4 is about an 1" narrower overall, but with the same spring perch locations as your '72, which if anything, would allow you more tire clearence.

Just my $.02
