just bought a housing to rebuild.it is greasy and dirty what would be good to clean heavy oil and grease off with.do not want to sand blast it. thanks

Power washer or steam cleaner. You can rent or find somebody that does it. Or, you can get down and dirty with it. Gunk degreaser, putty knife and a wire brush.

I like all these. If you have a plastic 5 gallon bucket soak with degreaser for a few days to soften it up. Dave

Oven cleaner works well--don't use on aluminum.........................MO

Car wash, will cost ya about 5 bucks, but well worth it if ya can't beg, borrow or steal a pressure washer.

what ever happened to "hot tanks "

"go to your local machine shop " used to be the standard reply for this sort of thing

Muriatic acid: Be careful fumes are horrible. respirator, full face shield required. Don't get it on your skin. It's made to clean masonery. My rear had metal in the grease and it still took four trys to get clean. only Clear coat on the pig, but the inspection numbers are ghost but visible.
