I'll be converting my 68 Coronet's stock 904 to the A833 tranny, and I'm wondering a few things. First of all, will I still be able to use my current tranny's cross-member? And am I correct that the bell housing selection should be B body specific, as well as big block/small block specific?...(this is hooking up to a 340). As far as the tranny itself, was there a long tail or short tail on 68 B bodies? Thanks for the help.

Cross member will be different unless u use a 70 or newer transmission with a long tailand bell is big block only I would just buy that new plus u need all the pedals linkage shifter and misc parts

If you do some searching on this site, there are a couple of detailed breakdowns on what is required to convert from auto to 4 speed. To answer your specific questions, the bell housing will need to small block specific. The transmission will need to be a long tailshaft unit and you will need to get a 4 speed specific cross member.

Brewers is a good source for components. I believe they sell a whole kit to do this conversion.

have your bellhousing lined up before investing in a trans that cannot be made to fit
get both together
sometimes you can change the bearing retainer- sometimes you can't
