My 273, 904, 2.76 b-body seems to have sufferd or be suffering from what im guessing is a trans. problem. the problem is pretty basic, i used to be able to just light up one tire all the way through 1st gear and then get the smallest second gear bark ive ever heard. but now i cant even break traction on wet pavement. it would be much appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction before i start the expensive process of elimination.

has the transmission been rebuild lately? if not maybe its time for a rebuild? could just be work friction plates and band out of adjustment

it probably is time for a rebuild, i bought the car with absolutely no knowledge of its history and did the bare minimum to get it back on the road, i know for sure it sat for nearly 20 years or more because i used to go look at it with my dad when i was about 5 years old, the transmission has junkyard writing on it and the motor is a 1966 273 commando so theres no telling whats going on with its transmission and or torque converter. i hate to admit it but i really know nothing about transmissions

ive been reading up a little and it seems the near death of my transmission was the result of six months of abusive daily driving with no kickdown assembly. looks like i installed one a while back just before it got really bad. i didn't even realise that it had anything to do with line pressure until today. ugh this is how you learn stuff.

o no, you ran it with no kickdown for that long? yup theres your problem lol. if you get a book on rebuilding transmissions or watch some youtube videos its not that difficult. if you look at the new rebuild kits its just gaskets o rings, and friction discs. just need a slide hammer for pump removal and internal and external snap ring pliers. if i were you i would get a 727 trans to replace the 904. they are like 100$ at junkyards
