A12 Fender Tags Decode

I have a Butterscotch A12 car, it's being restored right now, my question is were the VIN tags painted body color or left natural, also I had to replace my drivers side door so it's not original, I think originally it had a remote mirror, I think that bcuz I remember that it had that before it went into restoration, I also checked my broadcast sheet and thru the info in Jim Herds book it shows that it did have a remote mirror, my problem is that there is no G33 on my VIN, the VIN was remaned by Galen, is it possible that he missed this when decoding my car or was the G33 not always put on the VIN, you guys thoughts are truly appreciated...

you have one of those created tags by galen
which is just his best guess.
there is no way to know what exactly came on your tag
without the original tag to copy from.
for the most part that code won't be on lynch road tags,
but i'm only guessing because your original can not confirm it either way..

What's the first five digits of the serial number? If its a Lynch Road built car, the fender tags leave about 75% of the info off the tag.

I think what you mean is your fender tag; not VIN tag. The VIN tag is on the dash. The fender tag is the metal plate containing sales and administrative codes affixed to the fender.

If this is an A12 car, then it was produced at the Lynch Road plant. Lynch Road plant tags do not contain all of the options that came with the car. The broadcast sheet will contain much more information about the car.

As Flypaper stated, the only way to make an accurate 69 Lynch Road fender tag is by using the data contained on the original tag as the template. There is certain data unique to each car on the original fender tag that is not on any other documentation. To replace a 69 LR fender tag without the original data requires guessing.

The A12 LR tags were bare metal or covered with a bit of overspray. The accepted scenario is they were hung from the window frame when the car was painted. See attached photo. I don't remember where it was from to give credit.

G33 will never be on a LR fender tag. If present on your build sheet you have confirmation of the remote left mirror. A build sheet is your best documentation for a LR car. As previously stated, LR tags contain information unique to that specific car. A tag reproduced without the original has onomolies.
