Hey everyone after about 45 minutes of looking online I can't get a straight answer. We are swapping our 1972 Coronet to a A833 Overdrive Transmission from a Dodge Pickup Truck. We are in need of a bellhousing and one showed up on the local craigslist with the part number of 3515734. Its also only $150. I checked and this is for the small 4.354 bearing retainer. And it is also for 72-74 E body and 67-71 A body. Now I know off the bat that it will not bolt up but here are my questions.

Question #1

Could we have a machine shop drill the hole out from the 4.354 to fit out 5.125 bearing retainer? It looks common on the 4.807 to 5.125 but not 4.354 to 5.125. Is there a reason for this?

Question #2

If we used the above bellhousing on a 71-74 B-Body what clutch linkage stuff would we need. Could we just bolt B-body units into that bellhousing. Or would this require a random assortment of parts to fit. What do overdrive people do?

Question #2.5

If we get a truck bellhousing will it be able to work on a b-body? It will bolt up to the engine but what about linkage stuff?

Coming from GM stuff where the reuse everything and make it simple. So far I have got somewhat confused at mopar. Mainly not getting straight answers while searching. Hopefully I can get an answer by the weekend so we can pick up the bellhousing if it will work.

For the bearing retainer you could get the retainer with the o.d. That matches the bell housing. I think Brewers has them

Brewers performance can answer all your questions and supply parts if needed and if you study the website you might learn all you need to know. Good luck.

just remember that the 3/4 level is upside down compared to a non-od, my brother put a od unit in his Challenger and he had to shift 1-2-4-3 till he got it straightened out :rolling:

There are two different bolt circle diameters as well as the three retainer sizes.

Biggest issue is that the bolt points for the fork pivot on a small dia bell are inside the circle dia of the big retainer.

Small block 5.125 bells are around.

I'm not sure what they did, but someone made my 440 BB iron bell work with an O/D.
Perhaps the fork pivot location is not as much of an issue.

When I got my roadrunner, it came with an o/d 833 and a 440. It has a #2892262 11" bell housing on it. When I bought a regular 4 speed to replace it, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they both had the 4.8" Bearing retainer on them so I only needed to actually replace the trans and put the throwout bearing and fork back on. This set up worked great with both transmissions. But as mentioned before, the 3-4 shift lever is upside down so I ended up making my own shift rod so it would shift correctly and when I replaced the trans, I just used the proper one that came with the car.

Bringing this back up.

So after some shopping I have found a good deal on a bellhousing from a 1982 D100. Casting number is 4202507 . But it looking like the fork style was changed. Since we have an overdrive transmission can we use this style. Or do we need the 75-80 style. Really wanting to get this swap going but wanting to order the correct unit.

Has anybody used a 1981-1986 Truck Bellhousing in a 71-74 B-body or any other B-Bodys. If you did what setup did you use for the fork?
