Getting slippage on acceleration in first gear so afraid my clutch is going. Anyone know how much the A833 4 speed weighs before I drop it on my chest.
You got that right........very heavy. I had mine out 3 times. I used to crawl under cars and pull the Muncie trannys out on my chest, not so with these heavy dogs AND......I'm not young like I once was. Try to get it up on a hoist and use a tranny jack.
bandit, DO NOT DROP IT ON CHEST!!! way back in 70 or 71 I broke a shift fork on my 68 runner, I got behind it and yanked it out on the ground then out to the side, after I installed the new fork and pushed it back under then I positioned my self with my head under the bell housing then drug that heavy beeoootch up and over my still developing nards and donkey and then bench pressed it home all by my skinny self. I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS WORKABLE METHOD, EVEN THOUGH IT DIDN'T HARM MY INPUT SHAFT LONG TERM. t-10,s and muncies are a piece of cake and they kind of even feel pretty good.
yea we used to drop it on the chest while you lay on cardboard ....THEN, have your buddy's pull you out from under using your legs!!....:iamwithstupid:
then try to get that SOB back in straight ......yes, blood caa be involved
You can most likely rent a tranny jack. Or a local shop would charge maybe 50 bucks to take it out for you. Its quick and easy in a shop with all the right tools.
Did mine by myself 20 years ago and it was a bitch, now I have a small leak coming from the front seal and there is no way in hell I'm going to pull it while on jack stands, either it keeps leaking or I need to find a shop around here that I can trust, no one but me has touched my GTX mechanically in well over 20 years.
DON'T drop it on your chest unless you want the wind knocked out of you and potential injury. You can get it out with a floor jack, some patience, and a helper.
Even with a floor jack, it is high risk. If that tranny starts to slip, you most likely can't stop it. Good way to break an arm or mash your hand...............................MO
It's really sad what happens when you get old. In High school I grabbed a 833 out of wrecking yard. lifted it over the fence, walk a half mile with it on my shoulder over to my awaiting Demon.
Can't do that Sh** anymore. I bought a cheap trans jack from Harbor freight. works pretty good.
