A833 woes

OK Gang, I am going to make this short and to the point instead of reading a book.

I bought a A833 on a whim without knowing exactly what I needed.

here is what I bought




It was supposed to go in a 70 duster and after some research I found out it will work but its not going to be just a bolt in.

I have a few questions. the date code comes out as a dec 69. but its an aluminum case.

did they make the aluminum cases that early?
is it definately an OD unit since it is aluminum?

Not necessarily an overdrive if the internals have been "re-cased". The 3-4 shift tab for a OD is as your picture I believe.

It looks like an overdrive dodge B200 unit to me. Aluminum case, flipped 3-4 shift tab and raised shifter mounting are exactely the same as a trans I bought years ago that came from a 84 slant six four speed B200.
You can shift it in forth and turn the input shaft one turn. If the output shaft makes more than one turn it's an overdrive unit.

Why would the year code be for 69? did they make the b200 OD trans back then?

I know a bushed aluminum case was available from DC.

I'd look for a 7 digit number and or the bushings.

The 3/4 shift lever is upside down. That means it's an over drive trans. It uses the original 4th gear (1 to1) for 3rd. Then 3rd is over driven. Over drives also have a different diameter front bearing retainer requiring a different bell housing to match.
