Im going with -6 braided line from the pump to carb. Does anyone know what size the outlet is on a Carter pump on a 440? The only numbers I found on the pump dont show up on a search. From searchng summit they have one pump description that says the outlet is 3/8 inverted flare and the others just say stock. Im sure there may be a couple possible sizes and threads, how do you know if its inverted flare or NPT by looking at the pump outlet threads. Thanks Stew

If it has an inverted flare, there will be a seat area inside the threads for the hard line to 'seat' against. A 1/4" or 3/8" pipe thread will just be open in the middle (no seat).

The pump usually is NPT 3/8 which requires a converter to 6 Army Navy. leave enough room for flex, make the line a little longer to avoid separation.

Thanks guys. It definitely isn't open straight thru to the inside of the pump and has an area for a hard line to seat against so it must be flared.

Snake oil, by separation do you mean the fuel line pulling out of the hose end?

Yes leave a little flex for the hose so it does not tug. It still may be NPT look to see if threads taper. make sure, so many variations.

Another option is to use an AN adapter with a 3/8" tapered flare on one end and a -6 male on the other. Then buy a 90* AN fitting to get the line headed up toward the carburetor.

I just bought a Carter pump and it has 3/8" pipe on both ends.

I ordered a 1/2 inverted flare adapter and was correct.
