Hey Guys, I've got a 69 Charger w/ 440 mag and 727 auto. My problem is that the brake lights stay on and it appears that the brake pedal is to far away from being able to depress the switch. If I pull on it by hand the lights go out. The brakes work fine and I cannot pull the pedal up closer to the switch. From looking at the switch it's the type with two wire leads coming out from it. One from the top and one from the side but I don't see how to adjust it. I'm guessing I need to move it about 1/2 of an inch. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Should be a bolt holding the switch, just loosen and move it forward.

5.7 Hemi I'll look for it today and see how far I can move it. I also see there is another switch type that is a screw in vs. the plug in like I've got. It looks like the screw type can be adjusted.

Yours is adjustable too. Just loosen the bolt that secures the switch, and move it toward the brake pedal like 5.7 Hemi said. The bracket should be slotted for adjustment if I remember correctly. Move it forward until the brake lights go out, and come one when you start to press the brake pedal down.

69Bee, thanks for the input. I was going to do that today but woke up with a cold that's been going around here in Houston. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and let you know how it goes. I picked up the screw in type this afternoon just in case. If the adjustment works with the plug in type I'm only out $6 and I'll have a spare just in case. FBBO is a great forum and I really appreciate the feedback on how to get stuff fixed.

5.7 Hemi, got under the dash and felt the slot you were talking about however it appears that the person who had the car before me bolted it to a hole directly under the adjustment. replaced it with the "screw in" type and it works like a charm. Next issue to run down is why the front and rear driving lights aren't working. I'll start out in the fuse box and see if I have any bad fuses and then start checking from there.

Glad ya got that part figured out.

Somebody else will know a heck of a lot more about the lights not working than I, so give it a day or so and I'm sure someone will chime in.

I've been playing some more with the tail lights problem thinking it was a ground issue but now my headlights are messing up too and if I barely move the switch left to right they will intermittently work / not work. Long story short I think it's a bad switch and ordered one from Year One for $25. Hopefully it will be here in Houston in time for me to put it in this weekend.
