Can anyone give me advice as to what exhaust manifolds or headers that will fit on a 413-440 in a 64 fury? Also, do i have to change anything to put a 413 in this 64 fury that had a 318 in it like member or anything else??

You need new motor mounts, there is a guy who sells them on moparts. Probably a radiator and oil pan. Let me dig up a header pic...

Ok, you want Hedman 78030s. They also come in a jet coat version. You can always use standard HP manifolds, one of the big exhaust shops (maybe Accurate) will do custom pipes if you give them the numbers off the manifolds, even if they are mismatched.

Thnks for shareing your knowledge. I appreciate it

Do u think there is mych of a performance difference between hp maifolds and headers? How bout headman huggers? R they that much better than hp headers?

I have these 2" TTI headers on the 440 in my 63. On my old 440 I used the 1-3/4 Hedman Elite headers. Also Doug makes a nice header for the bigblock B-body. Many header companies make headers for our older Mopar B-bodies and many are chassis headers but you can get fenderwell also. The standard long tube headers will give you the most power. Then the shorter or hugger headers are next and the exh manifolds last. How much you loose depends on the combo. Take my car for an example as I make about 600 hp with my long tube headers. With manifolds I could loose 50 hp and might loose 25 hp with the shortie headers. This is just a ballpark guess. Good luck , Ron

I read an article/interview years ago in one of the Mopar mags where they were picking Doug Thorley's brain. When asked about header HP gains and bang for the buck. He said something to the effect of his headers allowed maybe 20-25 HP over low performance log manifolds, maybe 10-15 over high performance manifolds on Stock BB mopars.

Also in the article they asked his opinion on H pipes. Again I'm going from maybe 20 year old memory here he said something like H pipes have a lot more effect on exhaust sound than HP at street speeds and actually may even lower low RPM torque. On the sound he said you loose a little of the crispness of the Big Block Mopar sound with the H pipe my impression if he didn't actually say it was he wouldn't run them on a stock to mild build BB street Mopar.

This is from memory from an article I read sometime before 1992 or so. I've searched and searched but I cannot locate the article but it was definitely one of the Mopar Mags from the time, but may have been one of the other early pioneers with headers but I'm fairly sure it was Thorley.

On Big Blocks with better breathing cam, intake, heads, etc the headers definitely maximize power

In all honesty, the HP manifolds are fine until you hit around 450hp. After that they are restrictive.

I yanked- out a 318 on a '64 belvedere put in a 383/ 4 speed...no problem...
just had to noch the K member a bit.....headers were no problem, but not fun.
(did this 30 years ago)..lol.:laughing11:
shoot, seems like 3 or 4 years ago!:edgy:

Hey Ron, Nice engine. Can you tell me what kind of plug wires you are running? Are they a set or did you make 'em up yourself? They look as good as I have seen on a BB with headers. Thanks, Smitty

Thanks for the kind words Smitty. They are Firecore plug wires and I bought them as a set. They fit and work great. A member on Moparts named Rich (SunroofGTX) sells them. Ron

I just had some custom made headers done for my relatively mild street 440 and after a Dyno tune picked up 40rwhp over the factory high performance 2.5" manifolds. Cheers.

Hedman 78030's

Great fit and great pricing.

Driver side goes in from the top and passenger side up from the bottom.

No clearance issues and I even used studs in the heads!
