Would like to replace the factory gauges in my 70 RR Rally Dash with modern day full sweep gauges.....was wondering if anyone else has done this and which size of gauges will fit in the existing holes (if any)...photos would be great if possible......

thanks

Hello new Mopar Guy, That is a very nice RR you have got there. You might want to consider having your factory gauges redone by an instrument specialty co. They can take your factory cluster and moderize the gauges and retain the stock look. Anything you do non stock to your car will deminish its value at least the amount of what it would take to return it to stock form. A custom set of gauges mounted into the Rally cluster would ruin it for a return to stock set up.
Check out companies like Redline at www.redlineguageworks.com or Instrument specialties at www.instrument-specialties.com
It is your car and feel free to do what you like, but unlike other brands, Mopar replacement parts, like your factory gauge cluster, are hard to find and expensive to replace.

Budnicks made a custom gauge cluster for his. Send him a PM for a link if you really want to go down that road. As I recall his looked pretty damn good.

i rebuilt my 70 RR dash with all new gauges,,,tic toc tach...speedo....got it all from VANSAUTOLLC....new updated circuit board from charger specialties...got a grand in it,,,,about

2/16, a little shaving needed. Forgotten speedo and tach size. I know its pointless asking, but why do you stock lovers feel the need to tell everyone to stay original? Personally, I would not drive a car with front drums and biasply tires, and electric gauges will only tell you the oil pressure has dropped when there's a hole in the side of the block.

My point being, some like stock, some don't. Funny thing about it, done right, modded or stock sell about the same price. Key words, done right. Crap always sells cheaper.

Agree, somethings are better not left alone like gauges, fire hazzard bulhead connectors, ammeters to name a few. The best thing to do is just pull your dash apart and look at it, they are easy to work on. I did my own dash using autometer electrical gauges and used the smaller speedo, tach etc. I've seen the bigger ones used but to me they look huge in a mopar dash. You can find pics of mine in the restoration-projects forum under restomod charger. Good luck

Can you post photos and more info on what you used and how you got it all to fit and work correctly?

thanks

PS: Some of us "fumbler's" need more guidance then others.......

removed inner clear plastic piece. and made a custom one out of a sheet of aluminium, fixed gauges to the aluminium piece with sikaflex so they wont fall off then screwed it to dash piece, cant remember sizes but i think the small ones were 2.5" and big ones around 5" easy job looks great and very accurate not like stock gauges

Love the dash, been playing around with idea of doing something like that but so I can convert my standard dash to a ralley dash. Use the stock trim over a custom made cluster.

Can you post a "day light" photo? The night photo looks great.......a day light photo will show more detail.....
thanks

thats LED indicators and high beam lights on the dash and LED's as the interior lights give it a nice touch also

these auto meter's were in my car when i brought it home. the 69 dash was cut pretty hard to make it work but it shouldn't be to bad on a 70. my battle was putting it back to stock.

68 hemi gts- though you did a beautiful job, could you explain why- was it a real six pack car, etc? Otherwise, maybe someone can help me understand why guys mount gauges on the floor, and a tach in the way of the speedo. I'm all for making these cars as you like, just would figure it to be easier to have started with a more stock car, rather than the one in the pics. Truly beautiful, but confusing.
