In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
Rather than hijack 64 Belvedere's "Super Stock theme" thread(Which was very informative,as far as the cable issues),I'll start my own,as I've not seen the topic here.

Has anyone out there used an aftermarket ratchet shifter with a stock console-WITHOUT MODIFICATIONS? Basically I'd like to try the shifter mechanism with my console. Part of the issue is the narrow dimension of the lever slot;what will fit through there? The other issue is a reverse lock-out;most I've seen would require another slot or some mods to the plate on the console. If I had another console,I wouldn't mind cutting one up-a little, not a lot-to try. Maintaining a stock look is also a consideration.

As I'll also be running headers, would the stock cable work with an aftermarket shifter,or am I resigned to an aftermarket cable-and the aforementioned problems from 64Belv's thread?

As always,thanks for any help,guys!

Al there is a 64 Polara 500 vert on ebay and it has an aftermarket shifter in the factory console. I have no clue how it was done, but it can be to hard.
