Please forgive my ignorance on this topic in advance :)

In the process of gutting my interior to put down a layer of sound deadening insulation (and then finding rust to deal with on the floor pans), I noticed that my shifter assembly looks very battered and rusted/rotted.

Since my car isn't original, I was thinking to replace the console shifter assembly with an aftermarket/hurst one....however, in my previous experience (GM, Chevy) those shifters are all cable driven, and looking at my Coronet, it seems the shifter assembly inside the car actually moves a physical rod connected through the floor to the transmission.

Anyone have input on what is needed to bolt in a non-mopar shifter assembly?

Most aftermarket shifters come with all the hardware needed to install them. Lokar makes several shifters for the 727 that are "linkage" operated but most mention they are not for console mounts. I'm sure there will be a lot of guys that can help you with a shifter that can be used with the factory console. If you look at Summit's website, models like B&M and Hurst have complete installation instructions that can be downloaded. This will give you a good idea. Some shifters are compatible with an automatic or manual valve body. Some shifters are designed more for a manual valve body.

Don't know if it will help much, since I've got my own hammered mess to deal with, but...

Your 67 727 normally hooks up to adjustable linkage. At least with that, can be made workable. Sure, there's tons of aftermarket shifters out there, if that's the way you want to go.

I'm strongly considering using what was tossed (literally) into my car. 64 Plymouth, but mounting a (lol) 67 727 into it. Console shift, nicely having the stock shifter busted out, only three mounting points. Shifter I have is out of a Olds, what I consider a slap stick. It's supposed to mount on the floor. Might make a new bracket to mount under the console plate.
Point is...options. Going to use the normal shift rod setup, and use either a rod, or cable, to link up the shifter.
Just have to get the motor/trans mounted in, to get things figured out.

Good luck on it!!
