I just rebuilt 727 for my 68charger and installed new hd flexplate with larger bolts( came w converter and flexplate). I purchased converter and flexplate from Dynamic converters. They seem to be just grazing cover..enough to make alot of racket. Has this happened to anyone else?

when you say larger bolts do you mean bigger head.just thinking out loud did they send you the right flexplate?

the converter is threaded for larger bolts. or larger than my stock flexplate/stall bolts. The hd flexplate has larger holes to fit. They are a 3/4''headed bolt.

Thats really odd. Is your inspection cover in good shap?? If its bent or dented that could cause it. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to guess why that would happen

I've had it happen on mine. Check your cover, odds are it's bent just the slightest amount letting it contact the bolt heads. Take it off, flex it lightly away from the tranny area, and re-install it. That should cure it. You don't want to bend it, just put a little warp in it. It's probably got a light warp in it now that you just missed when you put it back.

The bolts catch up top on the edge of cover that fits up in housing/block. There doesnt seem to b much clearance between bolts and rear of block. The bolts on converter are actually same size as flexplate bolts w this converter.

check the bolt head thickness. if they are fatter than the originals, you may need to take off some material. also, as mentioned above, the slightest tweak in the cover can cause this.

i had to trim the tabs off my shield (dont think i would grind on my bolts. ) once trimmed cleared fine.

Yes i had it happen all the time and it drove me nut's.
I just left mine off because i always like to check my converter bolts and make sure they are tight every once and a while.
:doggie1: never really had any problems not running one.

It just happened to me. I was so embarrassed when I knew that the quality of converter and flexplate are not working properly. :edgy:

good fix also. glad to see it resolved. been doin trany's for over twenty years never had an issue grinding a tad off the heads if needed.

As a side note, I would like to say checking converter bolts - probably during an oil change when your already under the car anyway - isn't a bad idea. I had a couple of mine back out and totally frag my dust shield.
