Checking to see if someone has already found some solutions to this issue for me:eusa_boohoo: My 62' Plymouth currently uses a fiberglass hood with a cut out under the hemi scoop for my air cleaner. I am using a 14" K&N with the 1" dropped base - no problems..
I want to put the OEM steel hood back on the car with hinges. I will need to cut a hole in the hood to clear an air cleaner and bring in air fromt he hood scoop. Ideally, I would love to be able to cut out the center circle that is already formed on the underside of the OEM hood. The problem I run into is that it looks like my 14" air cleaner will hit the rear of the opening. I looked last night at Summit and JEGs to find a smaller diameter (11-12") cleaner that used a dropped base to gain some filter height but couldn't find anything. I only have a bit over 3" from the carb rim to the hood so i would like something that has a droped base of at least an inch so i can have a good 3" of filter height. Anyone know of anything that fits this criteria? from the center stud in the carb the filter can not go back towards the cowel by more than 6".

I'm using an Indy 440 intake. Tried the Mopar 12 3/4" cast cleaner but it actually sat higher than my dropped base 14". Had to send it back. At this pointy I know I need a dropped base and can not find a dropped base small diameter so it looks like my only choice is to enlarge the hole in the hood.....
