My 70 Roadrunner has an air grabber hood. It operates just fine but when I am driving the flap shakes in the open position. Graveyard cars referenced this problem and how to correct it but I can't find the episode. I remember them having Josh tighten something from the underside of the hood because he is tall and it was easier for him to reach. Anyone know what I am referring to and how to solve it? It was the green 71 Charger Six Pack car.

Mine flapped when the screws holding the door onto the hinge loosened up. I tightened them (be careful not to over-tighten - ask me how I know!) and I also installed a repop gasket that fits in the opening. Those two things took care of my problem.

Thanks Greg, I will try those things. BTW, I have over-tightened a few things myself!

If your talking about the actual flap the spring and a pin on the right side is what keeps it from flapping when scoop is closed and closed when scoop is open, the pin that holds the spring needs to go through the hole in the flap.

w/o the spring and vacuum hooked up mine would raise by it's self when going down the interstate and stay wide open

I'm talking about this spring on the flapper.
Without the spring on the actuator it will open the door when driving, even with the spring mine won't close if I'm going over 60 mph.

Thanks for the help. I will check that spring, it may need a fresh one. My flap does not open by itself and seems to have no problem closing (even at 50-60 mph). When it is open, it moves slightly up and down, maybe this is normal?

When my screws are tight, it doesn't flutter at speed.

Maybe your pins on the lift arms, have egg shaped the holes in the sides of the grabber door. I`ve seen these worn over time, because they`re fiberglass. It`s hard to tell but open the door with vacuum , with the car running & when the door is fully open, put your finger on the end of the pin, ( above th "GR" pictured) in behind the decal. Now lift open & try to close the door. You will tell soon enough is the glass holes have egg shaped.
