I have a 69 base plate for a 383 but my engine is a 440. I have been told you can cut it down to work on the 440s. But how much to cut exactly

Don't cut it.

What he said... Keep it, shelve it, sell it to someone who is looking for a 383 base. If you want one for your 440, get a repop fiberglass one. You can get them from YO (pretty bad quality if you look at the underside) or there is a guy in Houston who makes what appear to be good quality fiberglass repops.

i agree dont cut it keep looking carlisle & mopar nats. coming up good chance to find one or trade for one.

Not sure but pretty sure you can get steel units from B @ E
