Just installed some new air shocks in my 1973 charger? They work great, added a nice rake to the car. Only problem is If i get on it, they tire jumps? This happens in the 2-3000 Rpm range and excelerating from zero through first gear.

Engine 360 smallblock
727 torque flight
limited slip

PSI Set at just above 70

Didn't have this happen before? other then the jumping and some swaying at higher speeds, they are great, defiantly feels stiffer, better for turning such. Also raises the car enough so that the cutouts down bottom out. (slammed in the front)

My first hotrod had air shocks but since my teen years I have learned that they hinder traction. I would save my money and purchase some new XHD or SS springs for the rear of the car. The ultimate setup is the Calvert Monoleaf and the CalTrac bars. I just changed my entire rear suspension out with XHD springs, new shackles, Rancho RS9000 shocks, ADDCO 675 sway bar, and all new supporting hardware.

Try a Taller adjustable pinion snubber on your 3rd member,:thinker: Pinion snubbers prevent rear axle rotation under hard acceleration.

70 psi is way too much and a higher back end will decrease traction. If you could put scales under the front tires, you'd be amazed at the weight difference you would see for every 1" of extra rear height. More weight on the front means less weight on the rear. And it looks like the pic of the shock you posted has no air at all. Also, do you have a separate line kit on them? If not, do it. When you turn a corner, the weight of the car transfers over pushing the air from the outside shock into the inside one and makes the car lean over even more and might be the reason you are feeling it sway more at speed. Also, the extra height makes the handling go away and it also affects the front end alignment.

Get rid of the air shocks.

That seems to be the general theme, get rid of the air shocks. The car will hook better with a good cheap set of three way adjustables like some Summit shocks.
