aluminum shavings through out block!

I have some aluminum shavings from my heads in the block. There isn't a lot of it but I want to get it cleaned out before I get the heads back and on the car. Another member gave me a method that involved kerosene which sounds like a good idea but just want to make sure this is the right/best/easiest fix. I don't really want to remove the block if i don't have to.
Any other ideas?

Aluminum shavings running around in the oil system. Shouldn't even be asking man. Even if you were able to flush them all out, what kind of damage have they already done? I say you don't have a choice but to tear it down.

you have too man. if the shavings are in there now that you noticed, how long have they been in there. rip it down, wash and measure everything and then re/assemble it.

Pull it apart,a set of bearings and gaskets are cheap.Especially if a bearing spins and pukes a rod out the side of the block.Do the right thing and pull it down,properly inspect parts as you remove them,and wash the block as if it was a fresh start.If the right way was easy everyone would do it!!!

Umm,,,, I dont think the car has been ran since he got some aluminum in the block from his heads. I DONT think a complete tear down is required if this is the case, just clean everything realy realy good!
I could be wrong however about the engine being ran,,, but from other posts, I think it's a result of trying to remove a rocker shaft bolt.

Yeah, if the engine was running with the chips circulating throughout the oiling system tear it down, but if it's what 67 B Body thinks then it wouldn't be too hard to clean them out of the one particular area. Are the chips in the rocker shaft hole where the oil feed is?

****,,,, I was hoping you caught it first! You could pull the mains and rods caps off with it in the car and clean it all out. Thats what I did when the cam went bad. I had no damage as a result of the failure though.. The filter did its job!
You can buy one of those squirt "trigger" bottles from Odd-Lots and fill with Kero for squirting up into the cyl bores from underneeth with the pan removed. Then do the whole run the pump with a drill when the pan is back on with Kero in it to clean out the oil passages good.
I think it takes less time and money to get everything cleaned out without a complete re-build doing it in the car.... However, you did say the heads are still off the engine, so maybe it's almost a wash? Not to mention, it is just about time to put them away for most of us....

we have the same issue at times with valve springs on the heads. we have moroso screen filter. you are always going to have some wear. the lifter bores will create some bronze in the oil. just clean it on a regular basis
