Just wanna know if this 440 block is toast? Has a chips where the cylinder meets the deck with numerous of rust pits (not deep). image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgJust wanna know If I'm hosed? so I can drop it like its hot and not waste my time.

I Don't think it looks good but really I don't know for sure. I would find a good machine shop and ask them. My thoughts..good luck

I would definetly not use it, although you could get it repaired and machined but over there in us you should be able to find one easy enough, just turn this one into a coffee table

Does not look great!! Any idea how deep it is pitted? If you can safely deck the block enough to clean it up and still find a piston that will give you your desired compression ratio it probably can be saved... what is your intended build?

you may be able to deck it I would take it to a good machine shop and see what they say

Planning on using it for street, I don't wanna dump cash and giving me head aches. Especially on a street build. I got for free, so I figure I haven't wasted much but time. If I can save it then I will definitely use it.

Needs to be cleaned up and inspected...threaded holes, lifter bores, cylinders and the whole 9 yards....but just about any block can be repaired for $$$.

Spray welding, head bolt inserts, cylinder sleeves, square the block. Like Cranky said, most anything can be saved, it is just a function of how many $$$ you want to invest.

From the pics those pits look deep and can interfere with head gasket sealing. Coffee table project should be appealing at this point. Get another block.

O ring the block and heads and your golden!!!!!

Drag it by Gilroy Automotive Machine and talk to Cres Martinez.

He does custom engine building and is very familiar with Mopars. A good guy.

Unless there is something special about that block I would just find a better one rather than putting any money into fixing that one. They aren't that rare.

It was my grandpas block, he tried rebuilding it as a last project, before he got sick and passed away.

Turn it into a wine rack and toast your grandfather every time you crack open a bottle. Then get another block, I found a low mileage short block for $300. Deals are out there.
