What do you guys think? Are the AMD bumpers as good looking as a factory chrome? I have a feeling the answer is no. I have nice bumpers to have rechromed at a local cost of $425.00 each. Anyone have real pics of AMD bumpers on a car? The ones on AMD's site are a joke. The car is pretty nice and do not want to hang some junk on it, but my pockets are getting empty after buying AMD's tinted glass kit. 206.jpg

IMO... re-chrome orig. Better steel, better plating. Make sure you spend a little time talking to the plater to get the quality level you want. good luck. she's looking awesome!!

I have AMD one on the rear of my GTX.Not close to the factory chrome but plenty good for a driver.Hard to explain but the chrome has a fuzz of a orange peel look.

I put AMD bumpers on my 69 RR project you can look under my posts to find pictures. I think they are what I would call as good as they came from the factory. At least the ones I got are. But on my 64 sport fury project I sent them to Ogden chrome in Ogden, Ut. and they are noticably better. So if I where rating them from 1-10 the AMD bumpers whould be like a 7 1/2-8 and Ogdens whould be a 9 or better.

Sorry no help with you bumper question but that's a great looking 70 RR brother.

P.S. gotta know how you keep rainwater out of that garage? Is the gravel the top of a french drain?

Thanks. Very nice RR and I love that color. Your bumpers look good in the pics. I would be happy with that if they look as good up close, but have heard it is hit or miss. I may just take a chance on them. I can get a set for a lot cheaper than retail which is leaning me in that direction.

Thank you. Yes sir it is a French drain. No issues even with the hardest of rain or snow. The wet floor in the pic is from washing the car off.

I'm always on board for using reconditioned original parts when ever possible. Only problem with rechroming any part is you loose the fine marks from the stamping process, which if you are building a 100% concourse car could hurt you. But I think you, me and most here are not building such cars so find the best plating shop you can and let them have at it. Plus it keeps the work local.

By the way, I have seen the AMD rear glass for the 68-70 RR and it's not even close to being correct. Stick with the original.

Thank you. I just got a price of around $1000.00 to do my window vent frames and bumpers. I know the guy does great show quality work, but just the window frames are $200.00 each. I know the AMD's will not look as good. Decisions....maybe the Mopar Nats will have someone there in August.

I have a amd on the rear of my 68 coronet. The fit is pretty good an the chrome not bad either. If you have original good straight bumpers get them rechromed they should look better. Make sure they give you your bumpers back. Stamp them on the inside so you know you get back yours. Here in ca they like to swap them out you might get a piece if junk like i did thats why i bought a amd rear. The 1000.00 dollars is not bad to do all that. The vent frames are cast they can be really hard to do make sure your chromer is aware because they can require allot of hours in filling pits from the stripping process. Anyhow good luck.

Tri-City will do an exchange with yours and they offer a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser.

I am with you on that. AMD has fixed the issue with the back glass. I saw the Mopar Muscle write up and talked to them about the issue before ordering it. Seems the first ones to come out had been made incorrectly. I just received mine the other day and can tell you it is the same shape as my original. Would have liked to find a perfect NOS all tinted set at the price I got on the AMD.

Thanks for all the info guys. I think at this point I am kind of leaning toward a rechrome by my local guy.

The new glass can not be any where near orginal, the new laws require the glass be tempered in a different manor. I had this explained to me by the PPG Glass rep. All the glass is coming from Tiawan for some strange reason. Amd just buys the glass from a manufacturer in Tiawan and marks it up higher.

For example A front Windshiled from AMd was 248.00, I went Safelite they had the same tined galss for 105.00. How could it be that cheap. Safelite guy told me they buy from brokers who bring it over in containers and everyone gets it from the same few factories in Tiawan.

Probably can't be made in the US due to all the environmental laws. Or you would just have to pay a huge fine (or call it a polluter tax or something) to do business in the US so people go elsewhere. If the glass could be made in CA it would probably cost $1295.00 ($95.00 for the glass and $1200.00 in fees!). Solar panel manufacturing on a large scale is pretty much outlawed (or too expensive to do) in the US so they are all made in or around China. Very dirty process using highly toxic materials similar to computer chip fab.

Yes. I work for a large company that sells AMD and others that sell reproduction parts. I know they are made overseas. The front glass can be had from just about anyone cheaper, but who has the rest of the glass matched tinted with the pen star logo? I did get them at an employee discount so that helped also. Believe me it is nice glass and I do have all my old to compare it to. If you have the cabbage and the will then buy NOS.

Way true.

How long ago did you buy the "fixed" rear glass? Got mine about 14 months ago and it fits but has a 2" gap at the chrome on the lower drivers side corner. Meeps has seen mine.

I just got mine last week. I had been in contact with them about a month before and AMD said they had been on Backorder because of correcting the problem. I think it has been pretty recent.

I figure it's a good way to go, kept my original in case i think i"d rather rechrome someday, but in the meantime this AMD one looks so much better than my old one.
