Just finished another Dana 60 today. This is going in my buddy’s 71’ Duster 340 4 speed 4 link. After seeing mine he sold his 8 3/4 and I picked this one up. So I did the measuring, cutting and assembly. It’s got a power lock, motive gears 3:54’s, Dr. Diff 35 spline axles, green bearings, new yoke, bearings, seals, etc.. Needs to be painted again, but he’s gonna handle that operation.

I'm looking to replace my 489 with a narrowed Dana. Possibly a Strange 60 unit. What are your thoughts? Rear is original from when the car was raced in the 60's.

Strange makes a great Dana. They are super easy to set cause they have built in side adjusters for the carrier bearings (no shims required). Plus they come with provisions for a pinion snubber. Just phone call and your cc number, doesn’t get any easier.

But if ya want to save some coin, you can build a truck Dana for 1200, vs 2800 from Strange.

Please explain. I want reliability and strength. The 489 in my "63 is getting tired.

Strange is a damn good rear, no question. Pinion snubber mounting, so you can use one, is cast into the center section. They can make it to your dimensions, specs and it’ll be ready to rock when you get it. Or save some cash and get a truck Dana then have your friend or shop or yourself build that. Go with 35 splines, much stronger that 30 8 3/4.

Right on. Post some pics when ya get it.

the thing that complicates this is if you want to keep the factory style tapered roller wheel bearings. The axles may have to be fitted.

You can run the tapered bearings, no problem. You just tell them that’s what you want. Might cost a bit more, but I don’t see any reason you couldn’t.

Only reason you’d have to run green bearings is if you’re running disc brakes like wilwoods
