Had a big group of people gather at Lloyd's place again. This time it was to celebrate the home-coming of a very special car to him. The 1930 Chrysler 70 Phaeton was brought home by Lloyd's father back in 1933, and remained in the family until the late '50's. From there it changed hands only a few times....only to be restored back in the '70's to its former glory.
The car meant a lot to Lloyd due to the family connection....some of whom are no longer around. This car was also his and Sheila's wedding car. There is a picture of Sheila standing in front of the car taken by Lloyd himself...I was hoping there was a picture with both of them....but sadly not.

When this car was discovered for sale only a couple of months ago, my buddy Cliff alerted Lloyd to it. The next day they travelled across town to look at it. Apparently, Lloyd was in tears when he saw it....the car meant that much to him. Much time was spent looking all over it, and stories were exchanged. They got home that night safely and it must have been on his mind the whole time. Two days later I was told that Lloyd had bought the car, and it was arriving home again for the first time in over 60 years.

The local newspaper has been doing a series of stories about the township history and some of the local icons of the area......of course this car and the family are a part of that history. As guests were arriving to see the cars and tractors, a reporter was already there conducting interviews and taking pictures for the local rag. It might not mean much to anyone outside the area, but it was a big deal, and it still is.

Anyway, on with a few pictures.... :xscuseless:

There was an ugly rumour that this might be the last event Lloyd hosts......but I heard a whisper that he is planning another gathering when the car turns 100......and Lloyd is only 90 now.

These are Lloyd's daily drivers......how many 90-year-olds do you see driving a C8 around ???

The C8 is still Left Hand Drive....he could have bought a Right Hand Drive model, but he didn't have time to wait the six months.

Traded in his Australian Special Edition Holden Commodore W1 and got those cars plus a bucket load of extra cash. It's actually sickening to hear what a few W1's have changed hands for lately.....enough to buy a house over here. Not bad considering there were only supposedly 320 built - although rumours are that there are actually only 319 (Aussies can't count)....and only 19 made it to New Zealand as our allocation. Invitation only to purchase one initially, then the remainder were on a ballot.

More pics..... My new seats are installed now - well, original A100 seats recovered to my liking by another friend.

One for @Rat Rod Al - thanks again.

Sorry Roger but that C8 is so ugly, thanks for the other pics.
The jury is still out on what I think about the C8.....in some ways it's cool but in other ways it ain't.....

The guys were all perched around the '42 Pickup when I left out on the road .....

Uncapped headers all the way .....man those QT Cut-outs are awesome.

First up in the shed for starting was the Internation truck. Lloyd has been know to drive this all over the place.....including with a load on the back....

Next up was the 1935 McCormick-Deering tractor. Imported from Australia back in the 1970's.....it spent most of its working life running up and down wheat fields during harvest. So much wheat has been under that tractor that the front beam axle has grooves in it now from the wheat stalks.

Love that cheeky glance toward me at 1:50......he knows I know what is next.

The video sound doesn't do justice as to how loud that back-fire really was.

And finally......the home-made cannon. Always a crowd pleaser.

The bang this time was easily twice as loud as last time.

As Lloyd says when he's packing the charge....."More wadding means more compression means bigger bang"

Half the fun is in the lead-up and all the BS people are talking. :p

So many treasures you have there Roger! Those pics make me want to come down, see it all first-hand and shoot the bull with you guys.

Thanks Kiwi. Always liked Anglias of all sorts.
A friend at one time had a 48 with a 396, turbo400, and a 56 Pontiac rear (NOT the big 57 up poncho rear). Street car, had a bunch of potential, but the 396 was amazingly weak. Today's crate 502 or 540 would have made that car terrifying. My buddy sold it at a profit. He never kept anything if he could make a profit selling it.
I've been wanting a late 50s delivery version since I saw a chopped one at carlsbad Raceway with a small chevy in it.

..... and I can understand the attachment for his Chrysler.
My high-school driver was a 55 chevy Delrey (a 210, but with a vinyl interior instead of cloth) that my folks bought new in 54.
It's still parked in my back yard.

You put the Anglia engine bay picture right after the interior pic of your A100 and I had to do a double take! "Where's the other side of the engine?" LOL

Thanks for sharing. Looks like a lot of history there and a good time for all to enjoy.

You are very welcome.

I saw this one on the road recently....I suspect a small block Ford V8....

You'd be made to feel welcome anytime.

He traded a Commodore W1 away for that ugly pseudo-Corvette? :screwy:
Looks like yall had a good time; to paraphrase Pink Floyd, 'Wish I were there'...

....for all three plus the cash. I know. But when you have the money, but not a lot of time......who can really judge the man?
