Had a big group of people gather at Lloyd's place again. This time it was to celebrate the home-coming of a very special car to him. The 1930 Chrysler 70 Phaeton was brought home by Lloyd's father back in 1933, and remained in the family until the late '50's. From there it changed hands only a few times....only to be restored back in the '70's to its former glory.
The car meant a lot to Lloyd due to the family connection....some of whom are no longer around. This car was also his and Sheila's wedding car. There is a picture of Sheila standing in front of the car taken by Lloyd himself...I was hoping there was a picture with both of them....but sadly not.
When this car was discovered for sale only a couple of months ago, my buddy Cliff alerted Lloyd to it. The next day they travelled across town to look at it. Apparently, Lloyd was in tears when he saw it....the car meant that much to him. Much time was spent looking all over it, and stories were exchanged. They got home that night safely and it must have been on his mind the whole time. Two days later I was told that Lloyd had bought the car, and it was arriving home again for the first time in over 60 years.
The local newspaper has been doing a series of stories about the township history and some of the local icons of the area......of course this car and the family are a part of that history. As guests were arriving to see the cars and tractors, a reporter was already there conducting interviews and taking pictures for the local rag. It might not mean much to anyone outside the area, but it was a big deal, and it still is.
Anyway, on with a few pictures....
There was an ugly rumour that this might be the last event Lloyd hosts......but I heard a whisper that he is planning another gathering when the car turns 100......and Lloyd is only 90 now.
