So Brian is a local guy in town here. (he grew up the next town over but i was in highschool with his wife, now they live in town) He was all over the Boston herald back in may and made some national news too. Basically, hes a marine (machine gunner) with 3 deployments to iraq and Afghanistan. absolutely stellar guy, met him several times. and in the past 5 years his world has fallen apart, father in law suicide, he and his wife had a still born at 8.5 months, parents got cancer, just a ton of shitty hands dealt his way. From his military career hes got extreme ptsd and got a concussion when he drove over an IED. fast forward a few years, starts having seizures. several MRI's later VA says, "we swear nothing is wrong with you, the seizures must be stress induced from everything else going on in your life, this isnt military disability related." he ends up losing his job due to the seizures (apparently after the seizure, huge amount of chemicals are released in his brain causing him to pass out asleep for 3-4 hours each time) and has to go on Mass health (the state health insurance for the people without jobs, thats a whole different discussion) for insurance for his family (im not sure why the VA isnt holding up their end)
mass health wants a different hospital to look at his scans before including him in the family plan, and the doctors say almost immediately "well what have the VA said about your brain tumor?" completely shocked hearing this, he says what brain tumor, they tell him "the very clear one in all your mri's" its pushing on all the right places to make him have seizures, and releasing chemical to make him sleep, and was most likely a scar tissue mass formed around an internal brain injury from the IED blast. when he went back to the va to confront them they said, well it was benign and probably unrelated and not getting bigger so no worth sharing to stress you out more. So the VA screwed up another great guys life thus far, probably because theyd have to up his disability percentage...
So, i hate hawking things but My cousin set up this go fund me for Brian, his best friend. and ask everyone to pass this info along. since he cant work, and he cant watch the kids if hes having seizures, his wife cant work more then a few hours here and there and its a mess. a new england based sports new website picked it up and its effin exploded. so i thought id share too.
since i dont do any social media things, this is the only place i have to share the story. and with several friends who served, all of which have had trouble with the VA, it sucks to see a great little family being destroyed simply because he risked his life for his country, and his country doesn't want to make good on their side of the agreement. do as you will with it. at least you can read his story listed here.
