I recently scattered a stock starter in my 440. I bought a Mopar Performance starter figuring lighter, smaller, better. Now i am having issues with fitting the starter. I removed the lug adapter and cannot get the starter to engage the flywheel. I have multiple holes for mounting but no luck with getting them to connect with the fly wheel. I have a 130 tooth flywheel and it would connect with the factory starter. I need to turn the motor towards the block but the starter is already right against the block. not sure what i am missing. I am trying to avoid another header removal, engine lift fest. I am also trying to avoid bellhousing removal any help would be appreciated.

I had a similar issues with my ‘70 runner with a 383. I had purchased a power master multi positioning starter from Summit and couldn’t get it to turn right to line up. After some research here and other blogs, I ended up buying a starter for a ‘93 Dakota pickup V8 from the local parts store. Bolted right up. The wiring was a little difficult to connect but now, if it goes out again, I don’t have to remove the header or jack up the motor.
Maybe this will work on your vehicle as well?

Thanks. I have been Combing the forums all morning and that might be an option worth exploring.

Wow.... that doesn't sound right with the Mopar Performance starter. I also bought a generic parts store one for a magnum small block & the motor spins over much faster and it bolted right up. I did have to do a little massaging on the wire connectors, but nothing major at all. Those are pretty tight against the block.

There are differences in the starter drives if they do not engage
