Anti-freeze overflow

Why do the 70 Dodge Coronet R/T have the anti-freeze overflow hose draining out onto the ground and not into a secured container? When I shut down my car it will sometimes drip anti-freeze out this hose. I sure it was designed that way but I'm tempted to design a container to hold it. Has anyone done this? Thx..Mopargirl

Not the best pic but this is were I put mine on my 69 RR. Good luck it works great and remember it will flow out and balance itself. Love the site tube on the side of the catch can shows you haw much is in there. It also will return the coolant to the radiator when it needs it, better than an old plastic bottle!

If it's dripping, you might change your cap. The springs will wear out and release when they shouldn't .
But installing an overflow would be a good upgrade also.

Used a Coke or Clorox bottle back in the day.

We use an old antifreeze jug.

If the overflow is not caused by an overheating problem, then just don't fill the radiator so full and then it won't overflow.

...contrary to popular belief.....the radiator SHOULD NOT be filled all the way to the rim of the radiator. actually it should be filled about 1-1/4 inches from the top. WHY YOU ASK????? when things get hot they expand and thats why you are overflowing. i had this very same problem and consulted the "MOPAR BIBLE". once i quit filling the rad to the top...this problem stopped. but yes it is a good idea to get a new cap anyway. 6 buxx at napa.

Mine was an empty beer-can... no shortage of replacements if ever needed, as well. :beerchug::beerchug:

Agreed. Leave 2 inches from the top. Don't need a bottle. Green antifreeze. 180 SuperStat. Don't overfill.

Why waste expensive antifreeze/coolant? The factory should have been doing this long before the gooberment made them do it. Besides, if you have a pet that likes the taste of it, it'll be tits up soon not to mention it's a horrible death for them. Yeah, every now and then, the gooberment does something for the good of everyone....

I don't use the factory windshield washers on my Coronet, so I routed a hose from the overflow on the radiator to the windshield washer bottle. Works perfectly, looks stock. Just an idea.
