Wondering if anyone had any pictures/info on any vehicles. Been searching the internet. What engines did they run since there was a hemi ban?

63 Plymouth - Paul Goldsmith.jpg

There was no race Hemi in '62/'63, of course it was introduced to the world at Daytona in February of 1964, NASCAR banned it after the '64 season. In 1965 Chrysler boycotted NASCAR and Richard Petty and Cotton Owens went drag racing until NASCAR felt the hurt of lost interest with basically only Fords running, so Bill France changed his tune, let the Hemis back in late in the '65 season. If you are into pictures of that era you should go on Facebook and join the NASCAR History until 1972 page

I 've got a tech report for the 65 NASCAR program, lots of interesting info and photos.

Not NASCAR but my 63 Maxi was put on the circuit briefly, apparently it when like a shell down the straights but was hard on brakes, the next year it was back on the 1/4 mile :)

This is the pic that inspired me to start road racing my 65 Belvedere. Petty ran a 64, then went to drag racing in 65 and gave it up after the tragic accident. He is better known for having a 66 as his next car, but did run a 65 for a half a year, I just stumbled on it. So earlier this year I got him to take a pic and sign my core support.

Ok that's beyond cool!! Must have been a day to remember!

Richard Petty did very good in 1963 in his wedge car (no Hemi yet) as I think he came in second place in the chanpionship. The 413 and 426 Max Wedges did ok in Nascar but they were not as dominate in Nascar like they were in Drag Racing. Ron

Petty didn't give up drag racing because of the accident that killed a child, instead he built another car that was one of the first AWB drag cars. He did have that car crushed though (Outlawed), it was dug up years later and I have seen what remains (not much), however after that wreck he built another drag Barracuda called 43 Jr, and campaigned that car until NASCAR lifted the Hemi ban late summer of '65 so he went back to NASCAR. The 43 Jr car was recently restored by the Petty Garage, it had been sitting in the owners carport for most of the time since he got it. It was displayed this year at Carlisle.
