The one that was on the car leaked all over the inner fender well and ruined some of the paint. Is there a brand and model you guys would recommend? Mine has power brakes with disc brakes in front and drum brakes in the rear. I know this seems simple, but NOT interested in having brake fluid on my paint again.

This is exactly why I use DOT 5 silicone brake fluid. no damaged paint or rusted firewall & MC. However to change to DOT 5, all componets have to be changed as it is not compatible with DOT3 I do not have anti-lock brakes, and not one bit of trouble in 8+ years............................MO

Thanks Mo. I have heard that from others. I think that may be the way to go this winter. For now I would like to bolt on a reliable (period correct) master cylinder and enjoy the car for the rest of the summer. Car has been sitting in the garage for a month now.

Cardone and Bendix seem to be everywhere. Just checking to see if one manufacturer is better than the others and if there is a recommended master cylinder model that works great.

If not mistaken, I believe Cordone is a re- builder ( I have nothing against that) Have you tried Raybestos? I like their stuff...................................MO

If Fenco makes one for your app, they have a lifetime warranty and come with a bench bleeder kit.

I went with a Centric 130.63019 with a 1 1/32" bore when updating to dual master. The 15/16" bore 130.63017 was producing spongy brakes, even though the manual front disc brake kit seller swore up and down it was the correct size master.

Yes, I believe Cordone is a rebuilder and I don't have a problem with that either. I will look into Raybestos and Fenco. thanks for the quick response.

I just bought two Raybestos MK474 rebuild kits for my GTX from FleetPride truck & trailer parts for like $8.00 bucks a piece. They're on EBay. I really like the silicone fluid because it does
not have an affinity for moisture, and never needs changing. Regular brake fluid pulls moisture from every place next to a seal or O-ring and corrodes the castings and pistons. The result
is frozen pistons and leaky Master cylinders. You can spill this stuff all over your car and all it will do is stop the squeeks! Good luck with your project!

Cardone is crap. Like zyzzyx said. Did you think about just getting a re-build kit? Advantage, matching #s, quality by you! Unless there is some crazy wear or galling, the kit should do the job just fine. The tools should be in your box. You would still be ahead of any un-known origin re-furbished unit that you can get.

Mine is a 15/16" manual dual disc MC from CENTRIC 130.63017. Pedal is firm.

NAPA sells the bench bleeder kit for $10.

I had not even considered a rebuild kit. The only downside is that I am not sure if the one that was on it was a quality master cylinder to begin with. Since it leaked and messed up my paint I am hesitant to give this one another try. But still an option I am going to look into.

I also think one of my winter projects is going to be to switch to DOT 5.
