Me too, i'm worried about the aluminum grille surround and cutting/brazing it. I have the aluminum rod and flux, just have not tried it yet.

Oh yes! That bucket is the most important cog in the Imagineering complex.

More MODS!!.......

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of putting 1968 Mercury Cougar tail lights on the Express. They are way less expensive, more available, and I think they hint at the 500 bezels with the chrome bars across there and also the 66 Charger lenses as they are longer than the stock 500 lights and have three bulbs like the Charger ones and can be made to blink sequentially. These are just hanging to the outside of the body here as a mock up and if I go with them they will be worked into the panel to sit inside the tail light slot. Plus there now is room in the middle to put back up lights. And these have a clear lens on the inside ends which are license plate lights that i'll have make red.

What say you...?

I care to the extent that the opinions of a wide spectrum of car guys, which exists here, will enable me to keep from doing something horribly wrong. Take the whole wing issue for instance. I will always make up my own mind in the end but 100's of eyes are better than just my two. Trust me, I will build it how I want it, but I see no objective reason to not use this huge sounding board at FBBO before doing so. Creativity does not exist in a vacuum.

I think your doing a great job! The body modifications you have done look good to me. I like the tail light idea to.

Hmmm....66 T bird....had not thought of that and I know there are several in the salvage yard close by. I will check it out, thanks!

I personally don't like it due to the large number of lines.............esp being vertically. It seems too busy.
The 1966 Tbird or Mustang lights may be better...3 sections.

I had a 66 TBird and thought the lights looked really good.

I meant to say the 65....2 piece vs the 66 long piece, but check em out.

The Mustang parts look good: http://www.classicgarageblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/66-tbird-taillights.jpg

DAMN FURDS!!!

if you do wind up with furd lights again, see if you can wire in the sequential turn signal...those were so cool. :eusa_shifty:

I fully intend to do exactly that.

The Torino is out, but the Mustang might be worth a look to see what the dimensions are. Thanks.

KRAZY glue....

I went to the salvage yard today and pulled the tail lights off of a 66 T-Bird. I like them. I cut the bird out of the middle of the center chrome trim piece and the bars also leaving just the oval shape. I will drill some holes to mount the word "EXPRESS" right in there. Coolness. They, like the 66 Charger set up, are about 2 inches short on either end. However, I will cut a hunk of 20 Gauge for each end and shape it to match both the end of the light trim and the inside curve of the quarter extension shape. Paint that black to match the outer edge of the chrome trim and that should be okay. The center panel was smashed but I gathered all of the hunks and I just finished using Krazy glue to put it back together. It will do until I can get a new one. I also pulled the buckets and the insides were pristine not a bulb or red cover broken. Got the wiring harness as well. Here be some pics...and yes, they will be sequential blinkers.

Mustang and Cougar shared many parts and the light buckets may interchange.

I was going to say yesterday.................pull a 66 and remove the bird, but didn't want to make it too hard LoL

Looks good..............looks better for sure..........

Thanks, I like it better than the Cougar ones. Once they are all polished up and mounted right it will look trick. The bird removal went fine but i'll have to use some JB Weld to fill the cut ends of the center bar to close them out. A little dab of filler in a few small spots and black paint or chrome paint. I found out that you can buy new lenses for the 66 T-Bird, all three of them, about $50-$70 apiece. The buckets are heavy! They come apart too. So if I don't want to use the center I can just place a blank sheet metal panel there instead.
