Anyone Else Do A Road Trip This Summer in a Old Car

Did a 4 day weekend/camping trip on one of my old motorcycles last week.

1998 Buell Defender, one of 12 built. I put the bike back together (broken front cylinder head, blown shock, blown forks, assorted body damage from being down, and upside-down) last month. Put...oh...160 miles on it, and decided "I'll do a 1,000 mile weekend, fully loaded. What could go wrong?"

Rode 260 miles to the event, spent 4 days tearing up WV back roads, rode back home...averaged 54 mpg...nothing broke, nothing leaking. I'm sore as ****...but damn I had a good time!

1000 miles is only slightly more than I usually drive each time I go from my place east of Sacramento to southern CA each Spring. It is a more comfortable trip with sound deadener and an overdrive transmission!

I’ve got the sound deadener and I’m about 15 pages into the 26 page thread of yours of the TKX install with coronetdarter.

I wanted to but have been to busy being retired.
I will have to go back to work to get some vacation time.lol

I did a run up to Yakima, WA at the beginning of the month. Went solo and had plenty of me time to clear the head. Was hoping to go up for cooler temps however with all the fire and 105 temps that didn’t happen. Did the NW Nations on Saturday then Took a drive over to Yelm, WA. on Sunday to pick up some parts. Had to take the alternate route due to the fires. I’m glad we did that. One thing I miss from the PNW. Loaded up and headed back two days later

The charger belongs to my bud in Yelm. I transported this car from Mesa to Yelm several years ago. He’s really done an outstanding job.

Going to spectate at the Mopar shootout at the strip in Famosa next month. 2.5hrs each way. After that it looks like I'll driving the wagon in the Hot Rod Power Tour West in the 1st part of October. My friend is having issues with his 46 Ford truck so I offered my wagon as backup. Should be fun. After that hit the Fall Fling later in the month. Take the wagon down for that too.

1800 mile in a week in his and 1900+ in a week in mine.
Will be doing it again next year. I'm developing a serious addiction to power tour.

How far do you have to go to qualify as a road trip?

Took one up to northern AZ 3 years and drove the car the entire trip.

Took a road trip THIS summer WITH the car but trailered it 90% of the trip.

All these events were in the Midwest area. Indianapolis for the NHOA show. Northern KY for the local cruise. Southern ky for Sommerset cruise.

Columbus Oh for the Nats.

i live in Tucson Az

That said....

Had it at the NHOA show in April, Had it at a local cruise in with my little brothers 71 Duster. That was the 1st time we have been at same show same time. Then the SummerNites Cruise in Sommerset KY late April. Mopar Nat's 3 weeks ago. Then stopped off and unloaded it to drive around Tucumcari NM on the way home.

I did not include Mopar Mats and Carlisle, because each is around 3 hours each way from the house. If something catastrophic happened it would not be difficult to run home grab a trailer and drag it home.
