Trying to decide if I'd like it
Maybe. I don’t recall seeing any RWL tires in a 17” but I haven’t exactly gone looking for them either. A guy could always order tire stickers too. They supposedly last as long as the tire itself.Hmmmm no raised white letters makes a big difference with them maybe ...
When the sidewall rubber is that thin, you'd hardly see the white letters anyway...as has been said, unless you're going for a resto-mod, I wouldn't go higher than 15". 16" would be cool but that's very hard to find. Those wheels on the yellow Charger kind of make it look like a Hot Wheels toy, IMO.Hmmmm no raised white letters makes a big difference with them maybe ...
I worked in a tire shop PT to earn extra money to fund my car habit from 1980 to 1986. I used to work on Magnum 500s every once in awhile. One problem is there is no central hub for the balancer cone to index on. The wheel is a stamping and the spokes are by no means accurate enough to centralize the wheel. Other guys who did that usually had wheels/tires come back for rebalancing. I would take the extra time to use an attachment that located the wheel by the 5 stud holes so 5 nuts had to be threaded on then off again after balancing. Full disclaimer, I don't know if modern balancers get around that but I used a classic Coates machine back in the day. So being non-hub-centric, balancing may be an issue.Like I said, I do want 17/18's because I want better tire performance to go along with the Bilsteins and 1.08 bars

I recently acquired a very rough flat black 69 Charger with original 14" Magnum 500s that actually look presentable after cleaning. I don't know the width of them (I'm mostly an A-body guy) but I'm guessing only 5-1/2", maybe 6". A 225X14 tire on this big car is not great for spirited driving. 15s would help.
I think the Magnum "style" wheels look really good on 2nd gen Chargers and are correct.
Having said that, I'm thinking about 17" Magnum style wheels in the future. My car is such a disaster, modern wheels aren't going to kill originality on this beast and it's mine, not anyone else's so let them do what they want on their car.
I was in the Summit store a couple weeks ago and took this picture. Also a pic of a McCandless Challenger with 17" American Racing wheels. Price wise, modern 17s are comparable in price to chrome Magnums. I'll probably wait until I see Chargers in person at Carlisle and Mopar Nats this summer before deciding.
