I am trying to figure out if I am going to have to cut the firewall and make a trans tunnel? Anyone done it and know?

You might be the first, stuff it up there and see whatcha got.

I found a company that makes a replacement trans tunnel. A little cutting and welding and I should be in business

If you have a console car, there are 3 brackets. You will need to reuse those, so do this, the bracket closest to the fire wall is/might be the only 1 you have to remove, then re-weld it on the new tunnel.

I do have a console car. I was probably going to make a new console out of fiberglass. Then I was going to get my CNC guy to make me a top that matches the stock console top as closely as possible

firewall

I removed firewall and ended up with this much room. hope this helps.

You'll need to rework the torsion bar crossmember as well as the most of the trans tunnel. It is a big job. Clutch linkage will also need to be fabrictated. It is fairly basic work for a street rod builder, but most Mopar guys shy away from that much fab work.

I have a tubular K member, no torsion bars to mess with. Its a hydraulic clutch, so no real linkage to fab other than the pedal assembly stuff. My biggest concern is how much floor and firewall I am going to have to cut out. Thinking about going to the wrecking yard and finding a trans tunnel out of a challenger and cutting it out and bringing it home and welding it in

Well get to cutting! Just start out small. I would put the eng/trans together and mock it up so you know exactly where you might need to cut. Thats the best way and you might be surprised that the tunnel may just need the BFH! Just my 2cents.

From what I've seen, you'll have to cut out the whole tunnel. I have some pictures in my B-body book of a T56 going into a B-body. I think the car was a '68 Charger. The entire tunnel had to be cut out as well as a big chunk of the torsion bar crossmember.

I'am looking @ 5~speed trans from a ALL MOPAR dude @ Passoin Performence, named Jamie Passoin, all made in USA ! ! check it out

www.passonperformance.com

this is what i want in my 65 Plymouth

I dont think Passon has them ready, but worth a look.

It is FAR less expensive to get a 6 speed out of a new challenger. It requires some fab work, but it isn't all that bad

Yes i agree but currently have 500hp-550TQ 440 that would destroy that 6~speed and wanting to up grade "someday" to 426 Hemi with a little bit more Ponies !
