i know alot of folk build 440's and put the out of the box aluminum heads on them for better flow, weight, etc...anyone have or know of doing this on a 383? just curious if it helps a 383 that much say...over a set of 906 heads or somethin. i have access to a couple of 383's with good shortblocks and just curious if i would be wasting my time putting the edelbrock's on there....

One of the car mags did a 383 build and the last mod was AL heads.

Showd good increase, like 20 Hp or something.

Found that yesterday online doing a search for cam specs.

I think they ended up with 410 HP or something.

I have a stock '69 383 short block with Eddy port and polished heads, Comp .510 hyd. cam in my 65 Belvedere. The heads really woke it up, it pulls to 6,000 rpm and makes around 400 to 425 hp.

I changed the heads,water pump and housing,intake,and wheels...it dropped the weight of my car almost 150 lbs...Thats a no brainer wether it,s a 440 or a 383...Then you add another 20 to 25 h.p. to that!!!
67 GTX
440 bored .40 over,509 purple shaft,727 tranny with a 3000 stall...

Pushrod-

Is that at the rear wheels or gross on an engine dyno?

Hi, Last year we put a 383 together with the six pack cam, eddy heads and 383 six pack intake. Otherwise everything is stock. Its a nice street package that sounds great, has good power when you need it. It turned out better than i thought it would being a cubic inch kinda guy! lol, I`d recommend it for the street.

which cam did you use? Mopar performance?
I'm running a 383 with a six pack set up cast iron heads and the Hemi grind purple shaft
my motor runs great just curious difference between 6 pack cam and the hemi grind

We have a stock stroke 400 in my sons Dart you see here with Eddy RPM heads. He uses the MP .557 solid cam and Crane ductile iron rockers. Its a mild street car and it has KB pistons with 10.6 comp. RPM intake and a 750 DP. Body is all stock and we installed a 6 point rollbar and frame connectors. Has 3.91's and a 9.5 Dynamic converter. Weighs 3550 with him in it and has run a best of 11.45 @ 117. I only told you of this as a 400 is basically a bored 383. I cant say how much the heads would have picked up over 906's but I will say they are definetly better performance wise then the 906's even with some port work done on the 906's. Ron
